The story

Throughout its history, Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu has had to be rebuilt time and again. Built on top of an old convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians, legend has it that among the rubble of the first fire a note was found that read: “I am an owl and I go alone; if you build it up again, I will burn it down again.” It is believed that, to break free of that prophecy, the ring worn by the convent's mother superior must be found and put in safekeeping.

Our investigators believe the key may lie in a small alternative theatre that was part of the original convent's estate and that is thought to have been used as a rehearsal room in the Gran Teatre's early years. But it can't be that easy. This theatre is about to face its Última Función, its last show, before being torn down by its new owners, who have coveted the property for years for its strategic value as an access point to a new mega car park in the centre of Barcelona.

If we find the ring, we will not only end the curse but also prove that this theatre is part of the original Gran Teatre. That way, it would be protected by the Cultural Heritage Protection law. The judge has authorised the excavators to move in just 60 minutes after the last show ends. Whatever happens, make sure you are out by then: these people will not stop for anything or anyone.
